A Conversation with Founders Sindy Kusumanto & Cheyenne Muller

The Hague, Netherlands
In a city where fashion and photography have long existed in quiet corners, MOON Studios emerges not just as a photo studio, but as a cultural catalyst. Located in the heart of The Hague, MOON is a women-led, multi-themed creative space designed by photographer Sindy Kusumanto and booker Cheyenne Muller—two visionaries who saw a gap in their city’s
creative landscape and filled it with intention, style, and community.
As The Hague experiences a creative awakening among its youth, MOON Studios offers more than beautifully curated rooms—it offers a home for artistic exploration and shared growth. We sat down with the founders to talk about building a studio rooted in inclusion, the power of accessible creative spaces, and how they’re setting the tone for a new era of collaboration within the Netherlands.
TFB: Let’s go back to the beginning. What was the moment you both knew
The Hague needed a space like MOON?
Sindy & Cheyenne:
During our time working at a modeling agency, we constantly received inquiries from clients
looking for a studio in The Hague. The demand was there, but the options were limited—mostly traditional backdrop spaces or studios with minimal character. We noticed the absence of a fully furnished daylight studio, and more importantly, the lack of a creative community. That realization is where MOON was born—from a desire to offer both space and connection.
TFB: You met as colleagues. How has your friendship influenced the
energy and trust behind MOON?
Sindy & Cheyenne:
We’re incredibly aligned in our creative vision, but we also balance each other with our
differences. That dynamic has been so important. From the beginning, it felt natural—we rarely clash on ideas. After nearly three years of working side-by-side, including a period where we essentially ran the agency together, we developed deep trust. Over many long conversations at Cheyenne’s dining table, we realized we shared the same dream: to build something bigger, something of our own. MOON is that dream realized.
TFB: What did you feel was missing from The Hague’s creative scene that
you now aim to offer?
Sindy & Cheyenne:
Fashion and photography in The Hague have always been somewhat
underrepresented—unlike Amsterdam or Rotterdam, which have thriving creative networks. We wanted to change that. By keeping our studio rental prices intentionally accessible and
designing five distinct, styled spaces, we’re creating room for everyone—from professionals to hobbyists—to find themselves in our environment. We of course made sure to include a daylight studio, which we felt was sorely lacking in the city.
TFB: Your rooms—Japandi, Desert Dreams, Retro, and Pink
Playhouse—each tell a visual story. What inspired their aesthetics?
Sindy & Cheyenne:
Our design process started with a shared mood board. Each space reflects a mood or moment we wanted to offer creatives. Japandi is minimalist and serene—ideal for yoga sessions, lifestyle shoots, or quiet networking events. Desert Dreams evokes warmth and escapism, almost like stepping into a sun-soaked holiday. The Vintage Room pulls inspiration from 70s, Baroque, Victorian, and Art Deco eras—styles we love but rarely see outside of historic hotels or palaces. Then there’s Pink Playhouse—our boldest, most playful space. We honestly didn’t think our landlord would approve it, but it came to life, and now it’s perfect for funky, high-energy shoots.
TFB: Why do you refer to MOON as a creative hotspot rather than just a
photo studio?
Sindy & Cheyenne:
Because MOON is more than a place to shoot. We actively host networking events, connect
creatives with each other, and cultivate real opportunities—whether it’s for paid work,
collaborations, or mentorship. Our goal is to build a creative ecosystem that uplifts, not just
functions.
TFB: What does intentional community building look like to you?
Sindy & Cheyenne:
It means creating a space that is welcoming for everyone. We organize events that cater to all skill levels and often mix groups so that professionals and beginners can learn from one
another. As a women-owned studio, we prioritize safety and inclusivity across everything we
do—both in-person and online. We’re always happy to guide and support creatives, no matter where they’re starting from.
TFB: How do you envision MOON shaping the next wave of creative
collaboration in the Netherlands?
Sindy & Cheyenne:
By connecting people across disciplines and experience levels. We want to foster a network
where photographers, stylists, designers, and models don’t just coexist—but actually build
together. More opportunities arise when we break down silos, and that’s exactly what we’re here to do.
TFB: As women founders, how do you lead while staying grounded in
artistic integrity and connection?
Sindy & Cheyenne:
We lead with transparency and openness. Our past experience in the agency world taught us a lot about leadership and communication. We approach our studio like a mentorship
space—guiding, encouraging, but also being clear about our values and expectations. We
genuinely love helping others succeed and aim to open doors where we can.
TFB: What’s been one of your proudest moments so far?
Sindy & Cheyenne:
After our spring brunch event, we had a moment of stillness—where we looked at everything
and thought, “Wow, we really built this.” Seeing the joy and creativity people bring into our
space, and hearing how positive their experiences have been, makes us feel like we’re doing
what we were meant to do.
TFB: Your upcoming Model Workshop blends empowerment, education,
and agency. What do you hope participants take away?
Sindy & Cheyenne:
Confidence—above all. That’s the foundation of a strong model. But we also focus on
protecting your boundaries, understanding your worth, and staying safe in an industry that
doesn’t always make that easy. Our aim is to equip models with knowledge and tools that will support their long-term well-being and growth.
TFB: Why pair skill-building with community connection in this event?
Sindy & Cheyenne:
Because networking is just as powerful as skill. Sometimes even more. Through our
workshop’s social component, we want people to connect, share experiences, and form
relationships that extend beyond the event. You never know who you’re speaking to—or how that conversation could shape your path.
TFB: If MOON Studios could become anything in the next five years, what
would that look like?
Sindy & Cheyenne:
We’d love to see MOON expand to multiple cities in the Netherlands and even outside of the country— in Antwerp, Düsseldorf, Paris... maybe even beyond Europe. We’re thinking big, and we see MOON as a concept that could thrive in a huge way.
TFB: How do you imagine building international connections—with places
like Brazil, the US, and other creative hubs?
Sindy & Cheyenne:
Through meaningful collaborations with international artists and collectives. Our dream is to
build a worldwide MOON community—each location rooted in local culture, but connected
through shared values of creativity, inclusivity, and accessibility.

MOON Studios NL is more than just a studio—it’s a testament to what’s possible when creative people are finally given the space they’ve always deserved. In an age of rapid digital evolution, MOON reminds us that physical spaces—those rooted in care, vision, and community—still hold power. In The Hague, a new chapter for fashion, creativity, and connection is unfolding.
