OUTSIDER Artist: A Vision of Unconventional Creativity

At TFB Magazine, we are always on the lookout for groundbreaking creatives who are carving their own paths and challenging the status quo. So when Iris Schout, an Amsterdam-based art director and stylist, reached out to us, we were immediately drawn to her powerful project with the talented artist Jahje Ali, better known as Rarri Jackson. Through this collaboration, Iris brings to life a visual story that celebrates the essence of true artistic freedom—no rules, no formulas, just the purest form of expression.

The concept behind OUTSIDER Artist revolves around Rarri’s personal artistic philosophy. Describing his work as "Outsider Art," Rarri rejects conventional boundaries and works with the belief that art should be free, unconfined by societal norms or expectations. Iris, inspired by Rarri’s unique creative energy, sought to capture this essence in her photo series. “I wanted to find a way to show him not only wearing the art but also creating it, and ultimately becoming the art,” she explains.

Shot at Kunst is Leuk in Almere, a vibrant hub for young graffiti artists, the location adds yet another layer of raw authenticity to the project. The dynamic, urban backdrop mirrors the energy of Rarri’s work, and the two worlds—graffiti and Outsider Art—collide to create something extraordinary. The shoot also underscores Iris' commitment to supporting her own craft as well as young, up-and-coming designers, many of whom contributed the stunning pieces featured in the series.

The collaboration brings together a dedicated team, including photographer Marjolein van Veldhuizen and lighting technician Jordy Stuivenberg, who worked closely with Iris to bring her concept to life. Iris pulled together fashion pieces from rising designers like Azalja van Dijk, Bleached Renaissance, and others to craft the perfect visual story.

Behind the Lens: Celebrating Emerging Talent

This photo series does more than capture the aesthetic of avant-garde fashion and art—it represents a broader mission to provide visibility for creatives in the Netherlands. Iris, who has worked with well-known brands like Daily Paper is passionate about showcasing rising stars in the creative world. "I wanted to collaborate with someone who inspires me and give a platform to new voices," she says.

The Fashion Behind the Art

The fashion pieces featured in this photo series are more than just wardrobe choices—they reflect the narrative Iris sought to build. Each outfit, from Permanent Clothing’s sleek, minimalist pieces to Bleached Renaissance’s leather designs, highlights the raw, unfiltered creativity that defines both Rarri’s art and Iris' vision. Accessories from brands like OKO MAISON, Mixed Utrecht, and New Offsprings provide the finishing touches, reinforcing the concept of mixing art with fashion in a seamless blend of cultures and styles.

Stay tuned for more creative showcases with TFB, and keep an eye out for Iris and Rarri’s work in our next issue of TFB Magazine. You won’t want to miss what these extraordinary creatives bring to the table, or the opportunity to catch them in future live events across Amsterdam!
